Comedian-turned-governor goes to Miyazaki office for 1st time

MIYAZAKI, Japan - TV entertainer-turned-governor Hideo Higashikokubaru, better known by his stage name Sonomamma Higashi, eats from his lunchbox at his office on Jan. 23 after assuming his new post at the Miyazaki prefectural government for the first time since being elected in the Jan. 21 gubernatorial election. Higashi told a news conference later that he wants to develop Miyazaki Prefecture into ''a local government that people can take pride in.'' (Kyodo)
