Koizumi formally announces retirement from politics

YOKOSUKA, Japan - Shinjiro Koizumi (C), a son of former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, takes part in a meeting of his father's supporters in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Sept. 27. The younger Koizumi is expected to run the next general election to succeed his father, who expressed his intention to retire from politics at the meeting. (Kyodo)
