22nd anniv. of Great Hanshin Earthquake marked
People in the northeastern Japan city of Rikuzentakata observe a silent prayer in front of a gas lamp at 5:46 a.m. on Jan. 17, 2017, when the Great Hanshin Earthquake severely damaged parts of western Japan, including the port city of Kobe, 22 years ago. The gas lamp was donated by Kobe to Rikuzentakata, which was hit hard by the massive 2011 quake and tsunami. (Kyodo)
