Annual snow festival begins in Sapporo

SAPPORO, Japan - Tourists flock to a huge snow statue in Odori Park in Sapporo, capital of Hokkaido, on Feb. 5 as the annual snow festival starts for a weeklong run. A total of 290 ice and snow statues are displayed at three sites in the city. Organizers expect more than 2 million people from across Japan and abroad to visit the festival. (Kyodo)
