Shinjo leaves for N.Y. to ink contract with N.Y. Mets

NARITA, Japan - Free agent outfielder Tsuyoshi Shinjo, who announced Dec. 11 that he will join the New York Mets, departs Dec. 16 for New York, where he will sign a contract with the team. ''I will play with all of my might everyday and do my best to get into a game as soon as possible,'' the Golden Glove outfielder told reporters earlier in the day. ''I will do my best for a position in the starting lineup.''
