Japanese obstetrician leaves for Afghanistan
NARITA, Japan - Makiko Kikuchi, a 34-year-old obstetrician and gynecologist of the Japanese Red Cross Society, speaks to reporters at Narita International Airport, northeast of Tokyo, on Oct. 5 before leaving for Afghanistan to assist in childbirths and offer advice to expectant mothers in the war-torn country. Kikuchi will work for five months in a hospital in Kandahar.
