Good luck ornaments for coming of spring being prepared

SHINGU, Japan - A woman at the Kumano-Hayatama Shrine in the western Japan prefecture of Wakayama prepares good luck ''kiccho,'' decorative arrangements of twigs with ornaments attached, for a festival celebrating the coming of spring Feb. 3. Attached to the willow twigs are decorations in the shape of old Japanese gold coins, sea bream fish and amulets, as well as small, colored rice cakes.
