Japan-S. Korean forum on history
A two-day Japan-South Korean forum opens in Miyazaki,
southwestern Japan, on Sept. 26 to step up research on the shared
history of the two countries and promote mutual understanding. The
Japanese team is headed by former Japanese Ambassador to South Korea
Ryozo Sunobe, who is now an advisor to the Foreign Ministry, while
the South Korean mission is led by Chi Myong Kwan, director of Hallym
University's Institute of Japanese Studies. Relations between the two
countries have been marred since Japan's 1910-1945 colonial rule on
the Korean Peninsula and its wartime deeds there.
