Window to the stars
The world's largest primary mirror for an optical-infrared
telescope arrives at Honolulu port Nov. 2 from Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. The 8.2-meter wide, 20-centimeter thick mirror will be
transported to the 4,200-meter Mt. Mauna Kea on Hawaii Island, where
it will be used in the ''Subaru'' telescope being built by Japan's
National Astronomical Observatory.
