4,000 meteorites found in Antarctica
The photo shows the mountainous area in Antarctica where a Japanese research team has found and collected a record 4,136 meteorites during a recent expedition. The Education Ministry said Feb. 17 that the area is located about 400 kilometers southwest of Showa Base, Japan's main research facility on the continent. The meteorites will be brought back to Japan in April for study.
