World's 1st seawater power generator begins trial
A trial run of the world's first electric power generator
using pumped-up seawater begins March 16 at the Okinawa Yambaru plant
on the Pacific Ocean shore of Japan's southwestern island prefecture.
The plant will not be in practical use until at least the spring of
2004 when a five-year survey to study the effects of seawater on the
facility is due to be completed.
