Lower house OK's Japan-U.S. defense cooperation bills
The House of Representatives on April 27 approves a set of
three bills aimed at facilitating defense cooperation between Japan
and the United States in emergencies in unspecified ''areas
surrounding Japan.'' The bills cleared the lower house two days
before Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi leaves Tokyo for the U.S. to meet
President Bill Clinton in Washington on May 3.
