Struggling Tamura wins 9th straight national judo title
Ryoko Tamura, struggling uncharacteristically against
domestic opponents, scrapes past Atsuko Nagai in the 48-kilogram
final May 2 to claim victory for a ninth straight year in the women's
judo national invitational championships. Tamura, a three-time world
champion, did not score against Nagai in the final but was awarded
the win by the judges for her aggressiveness and better attacks at
Yoyogi national gymnasium annex in Tokyo.
