Jiang, Kan agree to work for 'common understanding'
Naoto Kan (L), leader of the main opposition Democratic Party
of Japan, and Chinese President Jiang Zemin hold talks at the Great
Hall of the People in Beijing on April 5. They agreed on the
importance of developing a common understanding on historical issues
related to the 1937-1945 Sino-Japanese War. Kan was on an eight-day
trip to China starting April 29 to meet top Chinese officials.
