Municipalities call for laws against AUM

Some 400 people from 22 municipalities across Japan attend a Tokyo rally July 1 seeking legislation against the AUM Shinrikyo cult to alleviate public anxiety about the group. The gathering, held by the anti-AUM municipalities liaison group, adopted a resolution urging the central government to enact new laws to halt AUM activities and disband the group.
