The Kokubu River in western Japan floods
KOCHI, Japan - The banks of the Kokubu River in Kochi Prefecture on the southwestern island of Shikoku overflow July 29 due to torrential rain. Heavy rain has fallen since July 25 in the Kyushu, Shikoku and Chugoku regions in western Japan and in Hokkaido, the northernmost main island. The Kochi municipal government advised some 25,000 residents living near the river to evacuate.
