Ramos-Horta votes on E. Timor future in Sydney
SYDNEY, Australia - Exiled East Timorese independence leader Jose Ramos-Horta casts his vote in a referendum to determine East Timor's political future in Sydney on Aug. 30. Ramos-Horta, a Nobel peace prize winner and vice president of the National Council for Timorese Resistance, predicted that 85 to 90 percent of East Timorese would vote for independence in the historic self-determination ballot sponsored by the United Nations.
