Wahid elected Indonesia's president
JAKARTA, Indonesia - Abdurrahman Wahid, leader of the 40-million-strong Indonesian Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), returns to his seat in the People's Consultative Assembl on Oct. 20. He won over Megawati Sukarnoputri, chairwoman of the nationalist-secular Indonesian Democratic Party for Struggle (PDI-Perjuangan), by 373 to 313 votes.
