Okinawa people protest U.S. base relocation
NAHA, Japan - Some 12,000 people gathered at a local park in Ginowan, Okinawa on Oct. 23 to oppose the relocation of the heliport of the U.S. Marine Corps Futemma Air Station to somewhere within the prefecture. Members of civic groups, labor unions and political parties adopted a resolution demanding the central government and the Okinawa government withdraw plans to transfer the functions of the heliport within the prefecture.
