PHUKET, Thailand - Ko Ikeno (L), captain of the Japanese-operated freighter Alondra Rainbow, hijacked in the Straits of Malacca in October, relaxes with his Philippine crew at a hotel in Phuket, Thailand, prior to meeting local officers. Ikeno and his crew were rescued from a lifeboat Nov. 8.

(1)Japan's MSDF recovers 1 body off Phuket

OFF PHYKET, Thailand - Crew of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer Takanami recover an unidentified body believed to be of an adult man off the Thai resort island of Phuket on Dec. 29 shortly after they began searching for victims of Sunday's earthquake and tsunamis. An SH-60J helicopter on the vessel carried the body to Phuket airport, Japanese government officials said. The photo was released by the Maritime Self-Defense Force. (Kyodo)

Ehime Maru captain leaves Hawaii for Japan

HONOLULU, United States - Hisao Onishi, captain of the Ehime Maru, a Japanese fisheries training ship hit and sunk Feb. 9 by the U.S. submarine Greeneville off Hawaii, is surrounded by reporters Feb. 23 as he leaves a Honolulu hotel. Onishi, who was the last of the rescued crew members still in Hawaii, departed from Honolulu airport to temporarily return home.

PHUKET, Thailand - Ko Ikeno, captain of the Japanese-operated freighter Alondra Rainbow, tells of his 18-day ordeal at a Phuket hotel after being rescued from pirates who hijacked the ship in the Straits of Malacca last month. Ikeno said the pirates were probably Indonesians judging from their speech.
