Japanese scholar comments on boy lama's departure
BEIJING, China - Satoshi Hirano, a scholar at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, speaks in an interview with Kyodo News in Beijing on Jan. 13. Hirano, now studying in Beijing, suggested the 17th Karmapa's departure from Lhasa to northern India may have been caused by discord between him and the Chinese government over religious policies.
