JOC submits Osaka as Japanese candidate for 2008 Summer Games
OSAKA, Japan - This is a photo of Maishima Island in Osaka's Konohana Ward, the site of a planned stadium and other sports facilities to be used if Osaka wins its bid to host the 2008 Summer Olympics. On Jan. 25, the Japanese Olympic Committee officially submitted Osaka as its candidate to bid for the right to host the 2008 Games. Osaka joins Beijing, Paris, Toronto, Istanbul, Seville and Havana as cities that have officially announced their intentions to bid for the 2008 Games.
