14,000 people protest U.S. live-fire drills in Oita
OITA, Japan - Local people gather in Kusu, Oita Prefecture, in southwestern Japan on Jan. 30 to protest U.S. live-fire drills scheduled to start Feb. 3 at the nearby Hijudai artillery range. Rally organizers said some 14,000 people joined the event, attended chiefly by labor unionists, to call for the reorganization and reduction of U.S. military bases in Japan.
