Hokkaido tourism industry luring Taiwanese
SAPPORO, Japan - Pictured is a Taiwanese-language brochure produced by a tourism association in the city of Abashiri, Hokkaido, aimed at luring more Taiwanese tourists to see ice floes on the Sea of Okhotsk. Although no such tourists are registered as having viewed the floes through 1997, some 2,600 Taiwanese visited the northern Hokkaido area, including Mombetsu City, in 1998, followed by 5,500 in 1999. Abashiri and Mombetsu are famous for their ice floes in winter.
