Japan sets up its first wind-powered generator in Antarctica

SHOWA BASE, Antarctica - The Japanese expedition team in Antarctica completes setting up a wind-powered generator at the Showa Base on Feb. 7 (in the morning of Feb. 8 Japan Time). The generator, the first one of its kind for the Japanese team in Antarctica, generates a maximum 10 kilowatts of electricity. The propeller has two 3.5 meter-long blades. This photo was taken by a reporter who accompanied the team.
