Fire kills 22 racing horses in Miyagi
SENDAI, Japan - A mare that won a G-II race last year and 21 other racing horses are killed in a fire on Feb. 11 at a stable in Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan. The wooden stable with a floor space of 764 square meters, one of five stables at a training center run by Shadai Group, Japan's largest producer of racing horses, was destroyed and 22 horses, including Egao-o Misete (Show Me Your Smile), the winner of the 1999 Yomiuri Milers Cup, were killed.
