Taiwan's Soong announces formation of new party
TAIPEI, Taiwan - James Soong (center, standing) announces March 19 the launching of a new political party. Soong ran as an independent in the March 18 Taiwan presidential election after being ousted from the ruling Nationalist Party. He finished a close second in the election, winning 36.8% of the ballot, or 4.66 million votes, some 300,000 votes short of the 4.97 million votes garnered by president-elect Chen Shui-bian.
