Japan's 2nd crested ibis bred in captivity hatches
NIIGATA, Japan - A crested ibis egg hatched May 8 at a conservation center on Sadogashima Island in Niigata Prefecture, producing the second ibis chick bred in captivity in Japan. The egg was among three laid in April by Yang Yang, a female ibis that arrived in Japan in January 1999 with a male partner, You You, as a gift from Chinese President Jiang Zemin to Emperor Akihito.
