FamilyMart-led group to start convenience store on the Web

Ito-Yokado's IYBank to begin operations May 7

TOKYO, Japan - Takashi Anzai (L), president of IYBank, and Toshifumi Suzuki, president of Ito-Yokado Co., show off bank cards in front of automated teller machines (ATMs) at a hotel in Tokyo on May 1. Anzai said IYBank, the new bank created by major retailer Ito-Yokado Co. and its convenience store subsidiary Seven-Eleven Japan Co., will begin operations May 7. IYBank plans to have ATMs installed at 3,650 outlets of Ito-Yokado and Seven-Eleven Japan nationwide by the end of its first year of business.

Kyoei to join Millea insurers group

Chiyoda to make new start under AIG

TOKYO, Japan - Sanwa Bank, Tokai Bank and Toyo Trust & Banking Co. have announced they will set up a joint holding company called ''UFJ Holdings Inc.'' in April 2001. Shaking hands at a news conference Oct. 4 are (from L to R) Tokai Bank President Hideo Ogasawara, Sanwa Bank President Kaneo Muromachi and Toyo Trust & Banking President Shunroku Yokosuka. UFJ, which stands for United Financial of Japan, will be based in Osaka, and the three banks will integrate their operations under the new holding company.

Mori responds to opposition in Diet

FRC inks accord to sell NCB to Softbank-led group

3 Japanese nonlife insurers to form holding firm

TOKYO, Japan - Three Japanese property and casualty insurance companies announced Oct. 19 they will establish a holding company by April 2002, creating Japan's largest nonlife insurance group.
