Nuke accord adopted after resolving U.S.-Iraq rift
NEW YORK, United States - Delegates from the 187 states that have signed a global treaty controlling the spread of nuclear weapons unanimously adopted a landmark final document May 20 in which the world's five declared nuclear powers pledge to eliminate their nuclear arsenals. Under the chairmanship of Algeria's ambassador to the U.N., Abdallah Baali (C), the conference reached a compromise on the document's language after agreeing to soften criticism against Iraq.
