Concert staged in advance of G-8 meeting

MIYAZAKI, Japan - A Miyazaki prefectural police force band performs in a lunch time concert June 1 to mark next month's Group of Eight (G-8) foreign ministers' meeting in the prefecture. With the flags of the G-8 countries as a backdrop, the 31-member band performed eight numbers, including a medley of national anthems and the Beatles song, ''Hey Jude.''

MIYAZAKI, Japan - A woman in downtown Miyazaki on July 11 stands near a street sign indicating ''Clark Street,'' one of 132 of the city's previously unnamed streets given English names in a gesture of internationalization. Fireworks show welcomes G-8 foreign ministers meeting

MIYAZAKI, Japan - A display of fireworks in the Matsuyama district of Miyazaki on July 11 takes place on the eve of the start of a meeting of foreign ministers of Group of Eight (G-8) countries. The two-day meeting gets under way in the city the next day, to be followed by a G-8 summit in Okinawa Prefecture on July 21-23.
