Tests on ibis chicks determine 1 male, 1 female
NIIGATA, Japan - Genetic tests on two ibis chicks that recently hatched at a conservation center in Niigata Prefecture suggest that one (below) is male and the other (upper) female, the Environment Agency said June 20. Their mother, Yang Yang, and her mate, You You, arrived in Japan in January 1999 as gifts from Chinese President Jiang Zemin to Emperor Akihito.
