Agency warns of possible eruption on Miyakejima Island
TOKYO, Japan - Tsutomu Takeuchi, chief of the Meteorological Agency's Volcanological Division, warns at a news conference on June 26 that an eruption could occur shortly on Miyakejima Island, some 200 kilometers south of Tokyo. ''Looking at past events, it is feared that a volcanic eruption could take place about two hours after successive earthquakes occur,'' he said.
