Signs indicating underwater eruption observed off Miyakejima
MIYAKEJIMA, Japan - A change in the color of the sea is detected early on June 27 about 1 kilometer west of Miyakejima, indicating that a volcanic eruption may have begun under the sea. There appears to be no eruption occurring on land, with magma activity apparently having shifted from Mt. Oyama's western foot to the sea west of the small island, located 180 kilometers south of Tokyo, an expert said.
