MMC develops 1.8-liter GDI engine with turbocharger

TOKYO, Japan - Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) unveiled on July 3 a new model in the Parjero iO series of sport-utility vehicles equipped with a 1.8-liter gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine combined with a turbocharger. The engine, claimed to be the first of its kind in the world, generates power equivalent to that of a 2.4-liter engine and allows smooth acceleration, MMC said.

Toyota launches redesigned Crown Majesta luxury sedan

TOKYO, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. on March 26 launched its redesigned Crown Majesta luxury sedan, which boasts enhanced comfort and new safety technologies. The fifth-generation Crown Majesta, the Toyota brand's top sedan, is equipped with a 4.6-liter V8 gasoline engine and has a wheelbase 7.5 centimeters longer than the previous model, providing increased legroom for rear-seat passengers. It comes with a premium sound system that includes 20 speakers, Toyota said. The new Crown Majesta's suggested retail price starts at 6.1 million yen, up from 5.67 million yen for the previous model. Mercedes-Benz Japan launches premium compact SUV

Toyota releases all-new, higher-end minivan hybrid

NAGOYA, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. on June 12 marketed in Japan a completely redesigned, higher-end minivan hybrid (in photo), whose mileage has improved to 20 kilometers per liter of gasoline, a fuel economy comparable to that of a compact car, thanks to use of a smaller motor and battery. The seven-seater, four-wheel-drive Estima G with a 2.4-liter engine also boasts better acceleration and sells for 4.41 million yen, about 500,000 yen more expensive than comparable gasoline-powered vehicles, Toyota Motor said. Toyota unveils high-end Lexus luxury car

Honda devises fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine for Civic

TOKYO, Japan - Honda Motor Co. said July 5 it has developed a new 1.8-liter engine (in photo) which is one of the most fuel-efficient engines of its class in the world. The 1.8/i-VTEC engine will be mounted in the new Civic passenger car model Honda will put on the market this fall. The engine is based on Honda's intelligent VTEC (variable valve timing and lift electronic control) system that switches the valve timing for maximum efficiency during ignition and acceleration to achieve a powerful torque, and then delays intake valve closure during cruising and other low-load conditions for improved fuel economy, the automaker said.
