Photo exhibition of 1995 Great Hanshin quake opens in Brazil
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - A photo exhibition opened July 29 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, covering the devastating earthquake that hit Kobe and its vicinity in western Japan in 1995 and subsequent reconstruction of the area. Hyogo Prefectural Gov. Toshitami Kaihara (2nd from R) attended an opening ceremony for the exhibition, which shows Brazilians who contributed some 82 million yen to relief efforts how the area has recovered. More than 6,400 people lost their lives in the magnitude-7.2 quake, which hit the Hanshin region Jan. 17 1995.
