Indonesian gen. who exposed graft relieved of post

JAKARTA, Indonesia - Lt. Gen. Agus Wirahadikusumah (R), an outspoken reformer within the Indonesian Army, meets reporters in Jakarta on July 31 soon after it was announced he was relieved of his post as head of the Army's elite Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad). The general, who had exposed graft within the unit, expressed his commitment to continuing efforts to reform the military. Agus will be assigned to the Indonesian Defense Force Headquarters as a high-ranking official.

      JAKARTA, Indonesia - Tengku Abdullah Syafi'ie (file photo), top commander of the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM) in Indonesia's Aceh Province, was killed in a clash with members of the Indonesian army's Strategic Reserve Command (KOSTRAD), the Indonesian military and GAM said Jan. 23. Syafi'ie, 50, was killed Jan. 22 along with his wife Fatimah and five other GAM members after they fought with 20 KOSTRAD members.
