Nakamura, Mocanu in Olympic women's 100-meter backstroke
SYDNEY, Australia - Japan's Mai Nakamura (R) and Romania's Diana Mocanu push off at the start of the women's 100-meter backstroke Sept. 18 at Sydney Aquatic Center. Mocanu, 16, caught up with Nakamura in the final 25 meters to win gold with a new Olympic record of 1 minute, 00.21 seconds. Nakamura took silver by clocking 1:00.55, breaking her own national record.
