Hagiwara finishes 8th in women's 200-meter individual medley
SYDNEY, Australia - Japanese medal hope Tomoko Hagiwara watches the record board after finishing eighth in the Olympic women's 200-meter individual medley final Sept. 19 at Sydney International Aquatic Center. Ukrainian teenager Yana Klochkova, who won the 400-meter medley in a world record time Sept. 16, won in a new Olympic record of 2 minutes, 10.68 seconds. Hagiwara clocked in at 2:15.64, well outside her Japanese record of 2:12.84, which she set at the national championships in April.
