Activists concerned over rising smoking rates in Asia
GENEVA, Switzerland - Malaysian antismoking activist Mary Assunta, in an interview with Kyodo News in Geneva on Oct. 11., shows an advertisement for a famous pop group with cigarette brand logos below. Assunta, a representative of the Penang Consumers Association, said she believes many young people in Asia take up smoking due to aggressive marketing campaigns by multinational Big Tobacco firms.
