BEIJING, China - U.S. lawyer Barry Fisher (C) makes a speech at a symposium on Japanese war crimes, which was held in Beijing on Oct. 17. Fisher is among the lawyers representing 15 women from South Korea and elsewhere in Asia who filed a class-action suit in Washington, D.C. Sept. 18 demanding compensation and an apology from the Japanese government.

            WASHINGTON, United States - A group of South Korean women claiming to have been forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military before and during World War II protest in front of the Japanese Embassy in Washington on Sept. 18. On the same day, 15 former sex slaves from South Korea and other Asian countries filed a class-action lawsuit against the Japanese government with a federal district court in Washington. The plaintiffs are seeking compensation and an official apology from the Japanese government.
