Takahashi receives People's Honor Award
TOKYO, Japan - Sydney Olympics gold medalist Naoko Takahashi (L) smiles as she receives the People's Honor Award from Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori at the prime minister's official residence on Oct. 30. Takahashi won the women's marathon in the Sydney Games, becoming the first Japanese to win a gold medal in an Olympic athletics event since 1936. She is the 15th person to win the award, which was last presented to the late film director Akira Kurosawa in 1998.
