Tamura turns away challenger for 11th title in Fukuoka judo
FUKUOKA, Japan - Olympic gold medalist Ryoko Tamura waves to the cheering fans after overcoming the challenge of former sparring partner Chiho Hamano on Dec. 10 to win her 11th straight title at the Fukuoka international women's judo championships. Tamura earned a ''waza-ari'' decision in the 48-kilogram championship final at Fukuoka Kokusai Center. Hamano as the challenger was penalized for passivity three times during the highly charged match.
