Coast guard heads from four nations meet in Tokyo
TOKYO, Japan - National coast guard chiefs from Japan, South Korea, Russia and the United States begin their first meeting in Tokyo on Dec. 20 to discuss how to crack down on the smuggling of drugs and guns and piracy in the northwestern Pacific. China was also invited to the meeting but canceled before it began, organizers said. The conference will release a joint statement Dec. 21 on crime-control collaboration in the region's waters.
