3 thieves rob post office of 11 mil. yen in cash

OSAKA, Japan - Police are investigating a robbery at the Osaka Central Post Office in Osaka on Jan. 11. A man believed to be Asian and two accomplices robbed the post office while two postal employees were placing cash in an automated teller machine. The Asian man asked them in Japanese where Shin-Osaka was.

Osaka police release photos of suspected post office robber

OSAKA, Japan - Osaka police on Aug. 6 released two photos of a man suspected of robbing 1.3 million yen from a female customer at the Shinmoriroku post office in Osaka's Asahi Ward on Aug. 3. Investigators target Daiwa Toshi Kanzai

TOKYO, Japan - Investigators of the Osaka prefectural police department on April 16 raid the office of General Finance Partner, an affiliate of Daiwa Toshi Kanzai, in Tokyo's Shimbashi district. The investigators suspect that employees of the Osaka-based Daiwa Toshi Kanzai group illegally collected some 130 billion yen from 20,000 investors.

Mycal to cut 410 bil. yen debts, 2,700 jobs in 3 years

OSAKA, Japan - Osamu Shikata (R), president-elect of Mycal Corp., and Toshiyuki Sugawara, managing director, announced a three-year restructuring plan at a news conference in Osaka on Jan. 24. Under the plan, the financially troubled retailer will eliminate 410 billion yen in debt and 2,700 employees on a consolidated basis. Shikata, 70, former chief of the Osaka prefectural police, will succeed Kotaro Utsunomiya as president, effective March 1.
