Deputy mayor of Ashiya arrested for alleged bribery

ASHIYA, Japan - Harue Kitamura (L), mayor of Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan, talks with senior municipal officials Jan. 20 after Deputy Mayor Kunihiro Tomita was arrested the previous day on an alleged bribery charge. Tomita is accused of accepting a payoff from a construction company president in exchange for awarding the firm the contract for a reconstruction project after the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake.
