Nishi-Tokyo city launched with merger of Tanashi, Hoya cities
TOKYO, Japan - Officials celebrate the launch of the new city of Nishi-Tokyo in northwestern Tokyo on Jan. 21 following the merger of Tanashi and Hoya cities. The new city occupies an area of 15.8 square kilometers and is home to 180,000 people, mostly commuters to downtown Tokyo.
