Nissan launches remodeled Primera on domestic market

TOKYO, Japan - Nissan Motor Co. on Jan. 30 begins marketing in Japan its new generation of Primera passenger cars. The new Primera Wagon (R) and Sedan (L) come with either 2000 cc or 2500 cc engines and feature conventional four-speed automatic transmission, or continuously variable transmission, including one which also enables manual transmission-use driving.

Honda to sell CR-Z hybrid sports car priced from 2.27 mil. yen

TOKYO, Japan - Honda Motor Co. will sell its CR-Z gasoline-electric hybrid sports car (photo) at a starting retail price as low as 2.27 million yen. Honda has set the price of the two-seater, which will be launched Feb. 26 in Japan as the world's first hybrid sports car, lower than conventional sports cars in a bid to draw new customers who are interested in high operational performance when driving at a high speed. People Staff to let robots care for seniors, work as receptionis

NAGOYA, Japan - An employee of People Staff Co. shows off two robots at a press conference on Jan. 25. The company said it will begin offering them for use in the care of residents of homes for the aged or to work as receptionists at offices in February. Yorisoi ifbot (L) quizzes seniors in order to prevent them from becoming senile while Kitty Robo (R) greets a visitor with a voiced message upon recognizing him or her with a sensor and transmits the image and voice of the visitor to the computer of a user in another room. Honda devises fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine for Civic

TOKYO, Japan - Honda Motor Co. said July 5 it has developed a new 1.8-liter engine (in photo) which is one of the most fuel-efficient engines of its class in the world. The 1.8/i-VTEC engine will be mounted in the new Civic passenger car model Honda will put on the market this fall. The engine is based on Honda's intelligent VTEC (variable valve timing and lift electronic control) system that switches the valve timing for maximum efficiency during ignition and acceleration to achieve a powerful torque, and then delays intake valve closure during cruising and other low-load conditions for improved fuel economy, the automaker said.
