U.S. sub captain regrets the sinking of Japanese ship

HONOLULU, United States - Cmdr. Scott Waddle (photo from the U.S. Navy's Web site) expresses his ''most sincere regret'' Feb. 25 through his lawyer over the collision between U.S. submarine Greeneville and Japanese fisheries training ship Ehime Maru. Waddle, the Greeneville's captain, had been silent on the accident since Feb. 9 when the sub hit and sank the Japanese ship off Hawaii.

                    HONOLULU, United States - Thirteen relatives of three people who died in the 2001 sinking of the Japanese fisheries high school training ship Ehime Maru by a U.S. nuclear-powered submarine in waters off Hawaii pray for the victims at a memorial in the Kaka'ako seaside park on Oahu Island on Feb. 9 in a ceremony marking the fifth anniversary of the sinking.

                      Ehime school marks 5th anniversary of Ehime Maru sinking

                      MATSUYAMA, Japan - Relatives of people who died in the sinking of the fishery training ship Ehime Maru off Hawaii by a surfacing U.S. nuclear submarine offer flowers on Feb. 10 at a ceremony at the Uwajima Fisheries High School in Ehime Prefecture. The school held a memorial service to mark the fifth anniversary of the accident in which nine people died.
