Nikkei plunges to near 16-year closing low

TOKYO, Japan - An electronic display at a brokerage company in Tokyo's Nishi-Shimbashi district shows the key Nikkei Stock Average of 225 selected issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange plunging 456 points. The Nikkei closed March 12 at 12,171.37, the lowest closing level in 15 years and 10 months.
